Understanding Reasonable Adjustments

Everyone's learning journey looks a little different, and that's okay. Below is exactly how we support students with disability, neurodivergence, or ongoing health needs to learn and demonstrate their skills in a way that works for them.

What is a Reasonable Adjustment?

A reasonable adjustment is a formal framework that allows Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to modify training delivery and assessment methods. This ensures that students living with a disability, neurodivergence, a special medical need, or ongoing ill health can participate in vocational education on a completely equal basis with all other learners.

We assess reasonable adjustments on a highly individual basis, striking a careful balance between your unique learning requirements and the core competency standards mandated by your chosen qualification.

Specific Types of Reasonable Adjustments

Under our operational framework, adjustments are customized across three main areas of the student experience:

  • Training Delivery and Instruction: We can adapt how learning materials are accessed, provide alternative multimedia resources, or adjust the frequency of academic touchpoints.

  • Assessment Methods: We can modify how you demonstrate your skills, such as allowing oral questioning instead of long written paragraphs, providing extra submission time, or breaking practical projects into smaller steps.

  • Assistive Technology and Equipment: We assist you in integrating digital tools, specialized reading software, screen-magnification settings, or custom device configurations into your Webclass portal workflow.

The Operational Limits of Adjustments

While ACCM College will always make every possible effort to be flexible, there are strict regulatory limits to the structural adjustments we can apply. Adjustments cannot compromise the integrity or the industry validity of a Nationally Recognised Qualification:

  • Inherent Requirements: If a national training package explicitly states that a core skill must be performed in a specific physical or operational way to ensure workplace safety or meet industry standards, we cannot remove that requirement. The adjustment must help you perform the skill, rather than bypass it.

  • Workplace Relevance: The adjustments we use during your training should realistically mirror the types of support, tools, and flexibility that are practically possible in your future professional industry.

  • Operational Hardship: Modifications cannot introduce a level of operational or financial strain that fundamentally compromises the training standards or resources available to the rest of the college student body. Where a request reaches this limit, we will work closely with you to find alternative, manageable solutions.
