Published / 3 min readCoreys Traineeship journey is a great reminder that success comes from showing up, staying committed, and making the most of every opportunity.
With what started as a light-hearted joke with the team at Real Futures, Corey was given the chance to gain valuable real-world skills that will support him well beyond schooling and into his career.
ÌýWell originally it was actually a joke, I was going on about how there wasn't anyone on reception when I would come in. Jokingly I would say I'll be the receptionist, and eventually we ended up asking if I could get a traineeship at Real Futures and they said yes.
Though his workplace learning and Certificate III in Business (BSB30120) has exposed Corey to a range of foundational industry based skills, there are some that he has found to be incredibly helpful:
..the ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues has been a game changer for me. I've become much better at problem-solving and thinking on my feet when unexpected issues arises.
One Corey'sÌý biggest takeaways was learning that professional workplaces can still be supportive, relaxed, and enjoyable while maintaining high standards.
The biggest surprise to me was actually that it isn't always serious. You can joke around and laugh while still being professional and doing work.Ìý
But balancing school, work and study isn't always a smooth ride; it takes commitment and a driven attitude. Whilst there were times that challenged Corey; leading into his final year at high school, he faced his Certificate with renewed focus and strong study habits and goals.
ÌýHaving a structured routine taught me time management skills that applied to my assessments and study schedule.
Through consistency, commitment, and determination, Corey not only progressed through his qualification, but exceeded expectations; successfully completingÌý his CertificateÌý ahead of schedule!!Ìý
When asked what he would say to a student thinking of jumping into a School based Traineeship, Corey said:
I would tell them to do it, it will pay off in the long run for sure and it's always something you can fall back on once you finish your course just in case whatever you want to do doesn't go as planned. Plus you actually get paid for your work, so it's definitely worth it.
Corey’s story is a reminder that progress isn’t always linear. With the right mindset and support, challenges become turning points, and steady effort can lead to outstanding outcomes.
We are incredibly proud of Corey’s effort, growth, and commitment throughout his traineeship. Congratulations Corey on your well-deserved achievement -Ìý it’s been a pleasure to be part of your journey, and we look forward to seeing what you accomplish next.
