Assessments

Assessments

Grading what you've learned as you work towards your qualification.

Understanding Assessments

A measure of your learning success

Every course we offer has built-in assessments along the way (rather than one assessment at the end) to test what you have learned and how well you can apply it to real-world situations.

For you to be assessed as Competent, you need to demonstrate three things:

Key Knowledge

What you need to know

Every course is different, but all Units have clearly defined knowledge requirements. They may include: legislation; legal obligations; standard business processes; key features; strengths and limitations; product or equipment differences; and understanding specific calculations required as part of a job.

We may assess competency using:

  • Online quizzes
  • Dialogue and conversations
  • Real-world scenarios, including case studies and role plays

Skills demonstration

How you prove your practical skills

All courses require you to demonstrate specific skills, in specific contexts. This means applying knowledge and theory in a real life situation. When the time comes, Webclass will walk you through the details of each assessment activity.

We may assess competency using:

  • Case studies with analysis and written responses
  • Practical activities, such as computer work
  • Hands-on tasks you may be asked to photograph
  • Presentations you may need to video
  • Customer or colleague role plays (over the phone or videocall)
  • Industry specific documents you'll be asked to create
  • Workplace safety inspections you'll undertake
  • Interviews or questionnaires

Workplace application

Demonstrating skills in everyday work roles

If you're part of a traineeship program, you'll need to demonstrate you have the required skills for the role. A unit is not completed until a trainee has proven workplace competency to our assessors, supported by validation from their employer.

As part of this assessment we:

  • Capture examples of the new or improved skills you use on the job.
  • Provide supervisor checklist to record workplace application.
  • Guide employers on skills and knowledge they need to observe.
  • Work with trainees to identify and resolve any skills gaps.
Authenticity

A true picture of your ability

All quality RTOs share a strict responsibility to guarantee assessment authenticity.

After all, if anyone could easily cheat, employers wouldn't value a vocational qualification.

Because verifying student identity is a unique challenge in online education, we use proven, secure methods.

This ensures ultimate fairness, compliance, and most importantly, that your final qualification is deeply respected by industry employers.

Verifying submissions

  • We scan for copied text, whether from the internet or another student. We also have AI detection.
  • Typing speeds and patterns may be captured and compared.
  • Webclass records IP addresses being used, and will report unfamiliar devices.
  • Multiple choice answers and case studies may be randomised between students.
  • Your personal experience or context are used for specific questions.

What this means for you

  • Always use your real name in documents
  • You may be asked to discuss your responses to confirm your competency.
  • Answer any security questions that pop-up and identify yourself if asked.
  • Answer specific case study scenarios from a designated pool of questions
Requirements

What you’ll need

Each unit outlines how you'll be assessed and what you'll need, so when the time comes, you're ready.

Every assessment is different, but for most you will need the following:

  • Phone access and Video Camera

A smartphone or a computer equipped with a webcam and microphone for verbal skills checks, phone assessments, and video conferencing (like Teams or Zoom).

  • Specific software or apps

Depending on your course, you may need Microsoft Word for word processing, Microsoft Excel for spreadsheets, XERO/MYOB for accounting courses, or specific IT applications.

  • Reliable Internet Connection

A stable, high-speed internet connection capable of streaming training videos, downloading course materials, and uploading assessment files.

  • Specific hardware (IT subjects only)

Access to specific technical equipment, components, or infrastructure as explicitly detailed in the entry requirements for your chosen IT qualification.
