If you're doing a Traineeship with ACCM, your Supervisor (or Employer, if you're with a GTO) plays a big part in your program.
This video explains how to determine your Workplace Competency — and covers the Supervisor Support Packs that help demonstrate it on the job.
Not sure what "Competency" means yet? Watch our Understanding Vocational Education video first.
Being a Supervisor to a Trainee is a big job, and the more you know the better you can support them.
While the specific Supervisor requirements vary from State to State, the basics found here in this video created by Training Services NSW provides a fantastic overview of what you need to know.
Each State and Territory has specific rules regarding how Apprenticeships and Traineeships are managed by employers.
In 2024, the NSW State Government updated the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Regulation - 2024 ´Ú´Ç³Ü²Ô»åÌý, to require that employers keep a record of when the Trainee or Apprentice is released for training with the Registered Training Organisation.
While ACCM College delivers via distance / online learning (meaning Trainees don't travel to our premises), recording the time Trainees are given and/or take to complete their online course work must be documented by the employer.
The specific wording of the current version is found to the right, but should always be checked against the link above for currency.
The employer of an apprentice or trainee must keep a record of each occasion on which the apprentice or trainee is released to undertake training delivered by a relevant registered training organisation.
The record must include—
7. Employer to keep training records—the Act, s 81(1)(f)
(a) the duration of the period for which the apprentice or trainee was released, and
(b) whether or not the apprentice or trainee was paid for the period.
(3) The Commissioner may require an employer to give the Commissioner the records.
ACCM College encourages all of our employers with Trainees to document the time allocated and released for their course work, and save this information in a format that is easy to gather.
Important: Training Services NSW may request this information in the event of an extension request or if there are any concerns regarding a Trainee's progress or learning program.
